Thangka Painting

Thangka painting class started only 5 years ago at the monastery. It was introduced mainly to help preserve and promote traditional thangka painting art among the young Tibetans. Some Tibetan school drop-out took interest in painting and make effort to build their future role as an artist. Therefore, we provide a small painting training class to offer opportunity to them. We have both monks and village boys who are attending the painting class. Thangka painting became one of the fields attracting young unemployed Tibetans. At present we have 4 young monks and 5 young boys following the class and practice under the instruction of a qualified young teacher. At present we are giving the painting class in an old and small class room.

We are seeking financial help to build a new spacious painting room. That is going to cost around Rs 120,000.00 (approximately US $ 2,500).

We also wish to offer nominal stipend to all the trainees. All the painting materials are sponsored by the monastery and we are not able to provide any stipend to them. We are seeking trainee’s monthly stipend sponsor, which will be approximately in Rs 500.00(equivalent to US $ 10.) only.

Prices of thangka will differ as per the various sizes. Prices are factory rate plus handling and airfreight and sea freight are to pay by the clients.
